Senta at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein

Gabriela Scherer is set to reprise her “mesmerizing Senta” (ConcertoNet) in Wagner’s Der fliegende Holländer, at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein.

This is the second revival of Vasily Barkhatov’s acclaimed staging, which premiered in Duisburg in 2023 and also captivated audiences last year in Dusseldorf.

This season’s performances will once again take place at the Dusseldorf Opernhaus, with Harry Ogg / Christoph Gedschold in the pit, James Rutherford in the title role, Hans-Peter König as Daland, Jussi Myllys as Erik, Katarzyna Kuncio as Mary, and Andrés Sulbarán / David Fischer as Steuermann.

Opening night is on January 23, with additional performances on January 26, February 1, March 1 and 16, and April 5.

“She restrains her big voice for a rather girlish tone, in which glowing intensity breaks through again and again, saving the hysteria, the completely unbounded blaze for the end.”
Georg Kasch, Oper! Das Magazin on Gabriela Scherer’s Senta last year in Dusseldorf.
